OFSTED, DfE & Financial Benchmarking

Ofsted is the organisation in England that checks how good schools and other children’s services are.

What Ofsted does:

  • Visits schools and nurseries to see how well they’re doing
  • Checks teaching, learning, behaviour, and safety
  • Talks to staff and students and looks at school work and policies
  • Writes a report with ratings for the different areas
  • Publishes the report online so parents can see how the school is performing

For parents, Ofsted reports are meant to:

  • Give a clear, independent view of a school’s quality
  • Help you understand strengths and areas to improve
  • Support you when choosing a school or talking to a school about concerns

In short: Ofsted checks schools and tells the public how well they’re doing and how they can improve.
