Asthma & Allergies

Allergies

At Clehonger Primary School we have a number of children with allergies, some severe.

To help keep everyone safe we ask the following:

  • Please do not send nuts or nut-containing products into school.
  • Be mindful of other common allergens (e.g. sesame, eggs, dairy) and check labels carefully.
  • Do not share food with other children.
  • Ensure your child understands the importance of only eating their own food.
  • Inform the school immediately if your child has any allergies or if there are changes to existing medical needs.
  • Please wash hands before coming to school (especially after eating allergen-containing foods).
  • Avoid sending in food items for birthdays or celebrations unless agreed with the school in advance.
  • Support the school’s policy on being an allergy-aware environment.

Nut Aware School

Clehonger Primary School is a nut aware school. Parents should never send in items known to contain nuts. Where many food items state ‘may contain nuts’, these items are permitted. However, if there is a child with a severe allergy in your class, we may need to restrict this. Parents will be informed of this at the start of the school year.

Items we ask parents to avoid include:

  • Peanut butter
  • Hummus (contains sesame oil which can still be a trigger for nut allergies)
  • Chocolate bars with nuts
  • Nutella style chocolate spreads
  • Hand cream / sun cream that contains nut based oils
